Adoption Guidelines
(Must be 18 or older to adopt)

APPLICATION: Fill out an application and turn it in. Make sure you are ready for the commitment of a new pet, and everyone in the household is ready as well.

FENCE CHECK: If you reside within the city limits of Wichita Falls, we will put in a request for a FENCE CHECK with Animal Control. An Animal Control Officer will drive by your residence and check that your fence is appropriate for the dog you want to adopt. When the fence check is done, we will call you and let you know if the fence check passed or did not pass and the reason why. (No Fence Check required for cat adoption)

Current Animals you own: All animals that currently reside with you, dogs and cats, must have current rabies and be spayed or neutered. You will need to bring proof, in the form of the rabies certificate. Also if you reside in the city limits of Wichita Falls, your pet must have a current city license. The costs are $7 per year for altered pets.

Pre Paid Spay/Neuter and Rabies vaccine:
Prior to completion of the adoption, you will need to go to your Veterinarian and pre-pay for the spay/neuter of the animal you are adopting. Animal Services will drop the pet off at the appointment, and you will pick them up after their surgery. Rabies vaccination is also due at this time.
Animals too young to be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption will still require the
Pre-paid receipt from your Veterinarian for the spay/neuter.

What you need for your new pet: Collar, Leash, I.D. Tags, Food, Bowls, toys, beds.
